Part 4: Meeting the Queen and Supports
Intermission 1.5: Meeting the Queen and SupportsSo this is Ylisstol, capital of Ylisse...I've never seen so many people!
It appears the capital was spared the chaos we encountered, thank the gods. I see no evidence of the great quake. It must've been limited to the forest.
Well, that's a relief!
Yes. Her name is Lady Emmeryn.
Is it safe for her to walk among commoners like this?
The exalt is a symbol of peace-Ylisse's most prized quality. Long ago, at the dawn of our age, the fell dragon tried to destroy the world. But the first exalt joined forces with the divine dragon and laid the beast low. Exalt Emmeryn reminds us all of the peace we fought for then.
Despite the similar-sounding story, the first exalt isn't Marth. His journey was about 1000 years before that. Awakening takes place 2000 years after Marth's
With Plegia poking at our borders, the people need her.
She's a calming presence, when some might otherwise call for war.
Then the Ylissean people are indeed lucky to have her.
Yes, I imagine she...Wait, what? She's your...
But wouldn't that make you and Chrom...
The prince and princess of the realm, yes. You remember Chrom's name and not this?
You said you were "shepherds!"
And so we are...in a manner of speaking. We just have a LOT of sheep.
Wow, that's actually kind of insulting when you put it that way, Chrom.
C-Chrom...I mean, Prince Chrom! Sire! Forgive my dreadful manners!
Just Chrom is fine. I've never been much for formalities.
The prince and princess...that xeplains why Frederick tolerates all the teasing, eh?
Indeed. Oh, the sacrifices I make for the good of the realm...
It looks like Emm is returning to the palace. Would you like to meet her?
*cut to inside the palace*
Music: It appears the capital was spared the chaos
Chrom! Lissa! Welcome home. Oh, and good day, Frederick. How fared you all?
Well-we shouldn't have any bandit problems for a while.
Wonderful. And our people?
Safe as they can be. But we still need to watch the borders. The brigands crossed over from Plegia.
Forgive me, milord. My pegasus knights should have intercepted them.
No, Phila. Your duty was here, with the exalt.
And besides, we had plenty of help!
Ah, you speak of your new companion here?
This is Robin. She fought bravely with us against brigands. I've decided to make her a Shepherd.
It sounds as though Ylisse owes you a debt of gratitude, Robin.
Not at all, milady!
Forgive me, Your Grace, but I must speak. Robin claims to have lost her memory, but it is only that: a claim. We cannot rule out the possibility that she is a brigand herself or even a Plegian spy.
Frederick!
Yet you allowed her into the castle, Chrom. Does this woman have your trust?
Yes. She risked her life for our people. That's good enough for me.
Well then, Robin...
It seems you've earned Chrom's faith, and as such you have mine as well.
Milady.
But thank you, Frederick, for your prudence, as always. Chrom and Lissa are blessed to have so tireless a guardian. I do hope they remember to mention that from time to time...
They occasionally express something akin to gratitude, Your Grace. Phila, I assume you've heard about the deathly creatures we encountered, yes?
Yes, milord. They've seen sighted all across Ylisse.
Chrom, we are about to hold council. I was hoping you could join us.
Of course.
I think that's our cue, Robin! C'mon, there's a place I want to show you.
With that meeting down, two things happen. First, the next mission opens up on the map.
Second, supports open up! Supports are the meat of the game for characterization. Gameplay-wise, having higher support levels with a character contributes to higher Support Bonuses, increase the chance of Dual Attacks/Guard, and Dual Supports.
A large majority of the character can Support with any other character, which can be increased by being in battle with another adjacement/paired-up unit, healing/being healed, Dance/Danced to, and landing on Event Tiles triggering Support increases. There's a lot of formulas that determine how having a high Support with characters changes a character from good to amazing, but that will be for a separate Lesson.
Between chapters, I will show off a level of Support Conversations between available characters. Same-gender conversations will take place after every other map (from when they appear) while opposite-gender will take every 2.5 maps (with some exceptions).
I'm using this method because I believe the game assumes that these take place over time, plus there's about over 400 conversations so I can't really dump say all of Sully's conversations all at once.
Next time: The actual mission, Shepherds
